Does the original PDF change?

No — a new stamped copy is generated. The original file on your disk is untouched.

When should I use tiled instead of diagonal?

A single diagonal mark is right for marking drafts or confidential documents. Tiled (repeated) marks are much harder to crop out, so they suit screeners and preview copies.

Can the watermark be removed?

A watermark added this way is drawn into the page content stream. It is not a security feature — anyone with a PDF editor can cover it up. Treat it as a strong visual deterrent rather than encryption. For real protection, use password protection.

What about password-protected PDFs?

They are rejected with a clear message. Remove the password first (open the PDF with its password and save a copy), then watermark it.
