Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my image get?

Photos re-encoded as JPG/WebP at 70-85% quality typically shrink 50-80%. Screenshots and flat graphics compress less — try PNG to WebP for those.

What does max width do?

It downscales the image if it is wider than the limit — e.g. capping at 1280 px is plenty for blog posts and halves the size of camera photos.

Does quality affect PNG?

No — PNG is lossless, so the slider is disabled for PNG output. To shrink a PNG, switch the output format to WebP or JPG.

Is EXIF metadata kept?

No — re-encoding strips metadata such as GPS location and camera model, which is a privacy bonus when sharing.
